The City of Port Orange invites the public to the grand opening of the newly renovated Recreation, Education, and Culture Center, or “REC" located at 4655 City Center Circle on April 29 at 10:00 a.m., marking the first opportunity for the public to explore the updated facility, enjoy food, and meet Rec Man. Children are welcome to leave their handprints on the second-floor wall to spell out “REC," leaving their mark on the center.
According to a release, the REC will offer dance classes, exercise groups, and self-defense classes. It will be open Monday through Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until 8:30 p.m. and from 11:30 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Sundays. The skate park will follow the same operating hours as the REC, Monday through Saturday, except on Sundays, when the skate park will open at 7:30 a.m.
ArtHaus, a non-profit organization that has fostered children’s passion and creativity for art for over 20 years, has also made the REC its new home.
Annual memberships for open play include basketball, pickleball, esports, and access to the playground and lounges. Yearly memberships are available for $55 for children, $65 for seniors, and $75 for adults. Daily and monthly passes are also available for purchase. The skate park, however, is free of charge. Staff members can waive purchasing a membership for those who qualify for an income-based youth recreation scholarship.
The REC will open for normal operating hours beginning Monday, May 1.
For more information about the REC, contact 386-506-5933 or visit the website at www.port-orange.org/REC.
