Beginning Saturday, July 8, 2023, the REC Center in Port Orange will operate using updated weekend hours, allowing residents and visitors alike to enjoy the center to the fullest. The revised schedule for weekends will be as follows: Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Sundays from 11:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. These adjusted hours will enable individuals to make the most of their recreational activities while having the available personnel for assistance and support.
The City of Port Orange is grateful to the local community for the overwhelming support received since the opening of the REC Center two months ago and launched with extended hours of operation, prompting officials to make slight adjustments to better cater to peak usage times.
After carefully evaluating the facility's usage patterns over the past two months, the city administration has decided to modify the operating hours to accommodate the community's needs. Specifically, the changes aim to enhance the visitor experience, particularly during lunchtime on weekends when demand is at its peak.
It is important to note that the city's diligent staff will continue to monitor the usage patterns and make further adjustments as needed. In addition to the changes in operating hours, Port Orange is excited to announce that the partner group, Port Orange Police Athletic League (PAL), will continue to organize Saturday evening basketball sessions. Port Orange PAL provides over 450 youths in the community with athletic programs and opportunities designed to build character and confidence through seasonal sports and summer camps.
