Organizers of the highly anticipated New Smyrna Beach Skyfest 2024, initially scheduled for April 5-7 next year, have officially canceled the event via the event's Facebook page yesterday, November 20, 2023.
In a message conveyed by the airport administration team and the Airport Advisory Board, the cancellation of New Smyrna Beach Skyfest 2024 cited various challenges, like the cancellation of the carnival, which added to the growing concerns about potential liabilities associated with hosting the event. The organizers also faced numerous other hurdles that contributed to the difficult decision.
Given that Skyfest was being organized directly by the airport staff with the assistance of volunteers, there was a significant worry about the increasing workload and the limited time available to orchestrate a high-quality airshow. Recognizing these challenges, the organizers expressed hope to revive a future event with the support of an experienced airshow producer.
"We deeply regret disappointing the fans and the sponsors, but this is not the end. The airport will continue to look for ways to do fun activities that include the community. Thank you for your support, and we look forward to reconnecting in the future!" the statement read.
Despite the current setback, event organizers remain optimistic about the future and expressed gratitude for the ongoing support from the community.
