Volusia County Sheriff's Office announces Civilian Firearm Safety Course for 2024.

To promote firearm safety and responsible ownership, the Volusia County Sheriff's Office is pleased to announce the schedule for its upcoming Civilian Firearm Safety Course in 2024. This state-certified program, facilitated by qualified instructors at the department range, located at the Volusia Sheriff’s Office - Deputy Stephen Saboda Training Center, at 3901 Tiger Bay Road in Daytona Beach, is tailored for civilians seeking a comprehensive understanding of their firearms or those needing the mandatory training for a concealed firearms permit.
The classes are free for participants due to a grant provided to the Sheriff’s Office by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) and are scheduled quarterly throughout the year. Prospective attendees must be at least 18 years of age and are required to possess a firearm before submitting their application to facilitate a thorough weapons background check as part of the enrollment process.

To ensure a seamless registration process, interested individuals must submit their applications a minimum of two (2) weeks before the scheduled class date. The Sheriff's Department emphasizes the importance of timely submissions for efficient processing.
