In celebration of Florida Arbor Day, Volusia County will host a tree giveaway, offering households the unique opportunity to acquire two complimentary native Florida food trees on Saturday, January 20, from 8 to 10 a.m. at the UF/IFAS Extension Volusia County, located at 3100 E. New York Avenue in DeLand.
A diverse selection of trees will be available, including Big Red Mayhaw, Chinquapin, Live Oak, Red Mulberry, Chickasaw Plum, American Persimmon, Southern Crabapple, Pawpaw, and Pecan. These trees, provided with bare roots, will vary in height from 1 to 2 feet.
The distribution of these native Florida food trees by the County serves to preserve the local natural heritage and foster a stronger connection between residents and their natural environment. This initiative aligns with the County's commitment to environmental stewardship by promoting the health and diversity of local ecosystems.
Proof of Volusia County residency will be required to receive the complimentary trees. The event will continue until supplies last, ensuring that as many residents as possible can benefit from this environmentally conscious initiative.
Interested individuals can contact the Environmental Management Division at 386-736-5927 for more information.
