Volusia County Schools Students’ SAT Scores Top State, Nation

Volusia County Schools students’ scored on the SAT, the college entrance exam, increased eight points on average, topping both state and national averages for the first time. This the fourth year in a row VCS’ SAT scores have risen.
The mean score for the Class of 2020 graduates was 1061 which is up 8 points from a year ago (1053). The state mean decreased seven points to 992 and the national average decreased eight points to 1051.
Volusia’s SAT scores outshined the state average in every category.
On evidence-based reading and writing, the average score for the county three points from 538 to 541. The state mean average for the ERW section decreased four points to 512, while the national average went down three points to 528.
Math scores rose four points from 515 to 519, on average. The state average in Math decreased four points to 479, while the national average decreased five points to 523.
“We are incredibly proud of the Class of 2020 for their commitment to education and their strong scores on the SAT,” said VCS Superintendent Dr. Carmen Balgobin. “VCS is focused on rigorous and engaging instruction as we provide a superior 21st-century education to all students.”
For the first time this year, Volusia Class of 2021 students will be provided the chance to take the SAT during the school day and free of charge. This will be the first time the district participates in the program.
