In a troubling incident, authorities in Volusia County investigated a claim of a student allegedly having a firearm at Galaxy Middle School, located at 2400 Eustace Avenue in Deltona, on Wednesday afternoon.
According to Volusia County Schools, the campus was on hold just before noon as a precautionary measure and lifted around 1 p.m.
The Volusia County Sheriff's Office actively investigated the incident to ensure the safety of the school, its students, and staff, and confirmed that there was no firearm on the school campus. Sheriff Deputies took the student who made a statement about having a gun into custody. The student was overheard and reported by others and is now facing charges of campus disruption and making a false report of a weapon.
Per the Sheriff's Office, the student claims that the statement was a joke.
