Detectives with the Port Orange Police Department apprehended Michael Steele, 33, from his residence in Port Orange on Friday, July 7, 2023, on charges of possessing child pornography.
Steele's arrest came after Port Orange detectives received a crucial tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in May. Detectives immediately began an investigation discovering that Steele had uploaded files containing explicit child pornography.
Working in collaboration with the department's Special Investigations Unit, the Southeast Volusia Regional SWAT Team executed a meticulously obtained search warrant for Steele's residence, where various items were seized for forensic analysis.
Steele faces ten counts of sexual performance by a child and is in custody at the Volusia County jail with a bond set at $50,000.
