The Volusia County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a 2-year-old from Orange City, who was left inside a sweltering car by her parents. The toddler was found around 5 p.m. Thursday, and rushed to a nearby hospital, where the young girl was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

According to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office, the family disclosed to detectives that they had departed from their residence on Highland Drive earlier in the day for lunch in DeLand. The parents were with their three children, including the 2-year-old victim and her two older brothers, aged 15 and 8, when the family returned home around 2:40 p.m.

The Volusia Sheriff’s Major Case Unit is currently investigating the incident. More information will be released when it becomes available.
