Volusia County Rallies Volunteers for a Coastal Cleanup this Weekend
Volusia County is mobilizing a beach cleanup initiative this Saturday, February 17, in response to the debris that last week's weather events have unearthed along the county's coastline. Residents, visitors, and organizations passionate about preserving the coastline's natural beauty are invited to participate in this event.
The cleanup, which will be similar to that of the County's annual International Coastal Cleanup, aims to restore the appearance and safety of the beaches. Persons who would like to participate should meet County staff at 8 a.m. at one of the designated locations below:
- City of Daytona Beach Shores City Hall, 2990 S. Atlantic Ave.
- Dahlia Avenue Park, 3625 S. Atlantic Ave., Daytona Beach Shores
- Frank Rendon Park, 2705 S. Atlantic Ave., Daytona Beach Shores
- Larry Fornari Park, 3259 S. Atlantic Ave., Daytona Beach Shores
- Toronita Avenue Beach Park, 4200 S. Atlantic Ave., Wilbur-by-the-Sea
The event will continue until the tide impedes collection efforts or until 11 a.m., whichever occurs first. To facilitate waste removal, volunteers will be provided with 1-gallon-sized buckets and will need to bring gloves, additional buckets, and other useful items. Registration to participate is not required.
Additional cleanups will be held at other locations in the coming weeks. For additional information regarding the County's coastal cleanup initiatives, contact Jennifer Winters at 386-238-4668 or jwinters@volusia.org.
