The City of Daytona Beach Shores is inviting the public to the demolition of the former Treasure Island Resort on Monday, March 28, 2022, at 11 a.m.

A viewing event for the demolition will be held in the vacant lot at 2024 S. Atlantic Avenue, Daytona Beach Shores, featuring a champagne toast with remarks from Daytona Beach Shores Mayor Nancy Miller. The vacant lot, which will also provide parking for the event, is located across the street from the demolition site.

The Treasure Island Resort became a safety hazard after sustaining heavy damages caused by hurricanes in 2004, and the building’s condition has continuously deteriorated over the years. Recently, the city began condemning the building, which led to a Stipulated Settlement Agreement and a redevelopment plan.

In February, Daytona Beach Shores City Council approved a development agreement that required the property owner to tear down the building by early June and gave the owner an additional 30 days to restore the property to a safe and aesthetic nature.

The development agreement provides the framework for future construction of a new hotel and/or a multifamily residential development and parking garage on the Treasure Island property, neighboring Sunny Shores property, and other smaller parcels in the vicinity.

According to a release, Pece of Mind Environmental, an Orlando-based demolition and environmental remediation company, has been hired by property owner 2025 South Atlantic Avenue LLC, a subsidiary of ACRES Capital, for the demolition project. Pece of Mind will use a large crane equipped with a claw arm to tear down the building.
