The Florida League of Cities, the united voice for Florida’s municipal governments, and the City of Port Orange have announced that Port Orange Mayor Don Burnette was appointed to serve the Florida League of Cities 2023-2024 Transportation and Intergovernmental Relations Committee. Mayor Burnette's appointment to this prominent committee marks a significant step in his ongoing commitment to public service.

This role was bestowed upon Mayor Burnette by Florida League of Cities President Greg Ross, who also holds the position of Mayor in Cooper City. The appointment allows Mayor Burnette to help shape the Florida League of Cities' Legislative Platform by prioritizing issues that impact daily municipal governance and local decision-making throughout the upcoming legislative session.

In addition to helping develop the Legislative Platform, Mayor Burnette and fellow committee members will work closely with the League's staff to understand how proposed legislation may affect communities at the grassroots level. Their role also includes advocating for local decision-making throughout the entire legislative process.

Mayor Burnette's dedication to public service is well-documented. In addition to his new role, he has served on the Florida League of Cities Board of Directors for the Third District and received the Florida League of Cities Hometown Hero Award.

“I appreciate the opportunity to service once again as I have in the past and bring back to Port Orange the knowledge that comes along with the ability to collaborate with others around the state and move forward with the issues that will benefit all of our cities," said Burnette.

Mayor Burnette has been Mayor of Port Orange since 2016 and represented District 2 on the City Council, a position he held since 2010. His educational background includes graduating from Spruce Creek High School and earning a Bachelor's and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Central Florida.
