Mayor Donald Burnette of the City of Port Orange has proclaimed that July 2020 will be known as “Wear a Face Covering,” month.

According to a release, this month will highlight the necessity of the wearing of face coverings when social distancing is not attainable throughout the City of Port Orange and urges all residents and businesses to do the same.

“Our responsibility to protect the public health is serious and of great importance,” said Mayor Burnette. “We are at a critical point in the battle against this dreaded virus and we are asking for everyone’s help for the next 30 days so that we can beat this virus down for the benefit of all.”

The proclamation is effective today Monday, July 6.

Masks
As this virus continues to grow in numbers, you need to mandate masks for Port Orange for our SAFETY. Cities around Port Orange have to wear masks. Your 30 day idea isn't going to work. Make a stronger commitment to mask wearing for our safety. Do it now.

Mask wearing
I am sorry but I don't know how you are getting this message to the public. I wear a mask when I go out but at the stores only about 10% of the customers wear masks. This is becoming more dangerous every day and I don't think Port Orange has helped the citizens at all during this time. There needs to be a stronger try to keep us safe.
