The Port Orange Police Department is investigating the death of an elderly man whose body was found on a nearby island in the Intracoastal Waterway by a kayaker on April 7, 2023, around 3:30 p.m. The kayaker immediately notified the police department, who responded to the scene at the Boat Ramps of the Intracoastal Waterway.
According to police, there is no evidence to suggest that the man was a victim of a crime. An autopsy conducted by the Volusia County Medical Examiner's Office will determine the cause of death. The deceased's identity is withheld until the next of kin can be notified.
Detectives with the Port Orange Police Department are actively investigating the case. Anyone with information, should contact Detective Lance Morris at 386-506-5813 or email him at lmorris@port-orange.org.
