CITY OF PORT ORANGE TAKES NECESSARY PRECAUTIONS AGAINST ANY DATA BREACH OF ITS CUSTOMER ONLINE PAYMENT SYSTEM

PORT ORANGE, FL —After reading the latest reports that the City of Ormond Beach may have had a possible data breach of the city’s online payment system, Superion Click2Gov, the City of Port Orange is taking all necessary precautions against any data breach of their own since using the same system to enable customers to pay their water utility bills online.

The City Port Orange has put significant measures in place to detect such a breach and at this time, they have not been alerted to any suspicious activity. The city has reached out to the Ormond Beach Information Technology Department to obtain further information and has contacted Superion and asked to have its Click2Gov system inspected. Additionally, the City has requested that the same cyber-security firm that researched the Ormond Beach incident to take a look at the Port Orange Click2Gov system.

Although we have not seen definitive signs of a data breach, we believe the best and safest solution for our citizens is to suspend online and auto bill pay operations until we can get assurances from Superion that our citizens data is safe,” said, Jake Johansson, City Manager. “In the meantime, customers can pay their bills by mail, over the phone, or at the Customer Service Department located in City Hall.”

Online payments have been suspended, which includes both water utility and business tax renewals. The City of Port Orange will refund or deduct any auto bill pay late charges associated with the suspension as soon as the system is back up and running. Customers should be diligent in monitoring their personal credit card transactions and report any suspicious activity to their credit card bank/issuer. The city will announce when we are back in full operation.
