In response to the shocking and unprecedented terrorist attack on the State of Israel by the Iran-backed Hamas militant group, the Jewish Federation of Volusia and Flagler Counties has organized a community-wide solidarity event titled "Vigil and Memorial for Israel" to honor the victims and express solidarity with the State of Israel during this challenging time. The event is scheduled for today, Monday, October 9, 2023, at 6 PM and will be at Temple Beth El at 579 N Nova Road in Ormond Beach. Distinguished speakers at the vigil will include Ormond Beach Mayor Bill Partington, Volusia County Sheriff Michael Chitwood, local Jewish and Christian clergy, and Jewish community leadership.
The shocking assault was initiated with a barrage of thousands of rockets launched from the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip, targeting Israel, followed by a multi-front invasion as Palestinian gunmen infiltrated southern Israel through land, sea, and even paragliders Saturday.
The Hamas assault has left a devastating toll, claiming the lives of over 700 individuals within Israel and more than 2,000 others injured.
The program will comprise prayers for the State of Israel and individuals who lost their lives, sustained injuries, or are being held hostage by Hamas terrorists following the recent violent attacks. This vigil and memorial event will show unity and support for the Israeli people during these trying times.
