"Boatel" Just a Rumor
Recently, media outlets in the area have been promoting a story about a new "boatel" facility near the lighthouse in the Town of Ponce Inlet. The articles imply that construction will soon begin on this project. The Town of Ponce Inlet released a statement today, Wednesday February 28, saying: "Please be aware that to date, the developer has not submitted any applications that would allow this use, and no permits have been issued by the Town for construction. Before it can open, the developer must get approval from the Planning Board and Town Council for a “Special Exception” to allow the use, and approval of a site plan that complies with the Town’s development requirements. Both the Board and Council meetings will be open to the public. This is the same process required of any new commercial development."
