Volusia County to open Hurricane Ian Recovery Program Applications on November 14

To aid homeowners affected by Hurricane Ian, Volusia County has initiated the Transform386 Hurricane Ian Homeowner Recovery Program, which will start accepting applications at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, November 14, from eligible homeowners grappling with the aftermath of the hurricane since last year. 

The Transform386 Hurricane Ian Homeowner Recovery Program presents an invaluable opportunity for qualified applicants to seek financial assistance for essential home repairs or to claim reimbursements for repairs already undertaken due to the devastating impact of Hurricane Ian. This initiative is made possible through funding from a grant provided by HUD’s Community Development Block Grant-Disaster Recovery program. 

To be eligible for this program, applicants must meet specific criteria, like household income should not exceed 120% of the Area Median Income, as defined by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The program will prioritize lower-income households and those with members aged 17 or younger, 65 or older, or individuals with disabilities. Additionally, applicants must have owned their homes during the impact of Hurricane Ian and still maintain ownership rights with a valid Homestead Exemption in effect. Homeowners must also have documentation confirming Hurricane Iane was the cause of the damages.

Applications are available on the official program website, www.transform386.org. However, for residents who may require in-person assistance, dedicated County staff will be on hand to assist applicants at various public libraries on Thursday, November 16, from 3 to 7 p.m. The locations for in-person assistance include:

• Daytona Beach Regional Library, 105 S. Jackie Robinson Parkway
• DeLand Regional Library, 130 E. Howry Ave.
• Deltona Regional Library, 2150 Eustace Ave.
• Edgewater Public Library, 103 W. Indian River Blvd.
• New Smyrna Beach Regional Library, 1001 S. Dixie Freeway
• Ormond Beach Regional Library, 30 S. Beach St.
• Port Orange Regional Library, 1005 City Center Circle

It is important to note that the program has limited funds available, making timely application submission advisable. A specific application closing date will be declared two weeks before closure, so applicants are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.
