In an exciting development for dog lovers, Volusia County is gearing up to open its inaugural dog-friendly beach on November 1, 2023, for the first time in over three decades.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Saturday, November 4, on the beach just north of the Milsap Road ramp in Ormond Beach to commemorate the occasion. Celebrants can park at Andy Ramano Beachfront Park at 839 S. Atlantic Avenue and immerse themselves in a morning filled with joyous barks and happy faces. The Milsap Road ramp will have a delayed opening until the event's festivities conclude.
The Volusia County Council gave the green light for an 18-month pilot program allowing dogs on the beach from Rockefeller Drive to Milsap Road in Ormond Beach between sunrise and sunset beginning November 1, 2023, during the July 11 meeting.
Volusia County is excited to share this newfound experience with its two-legged and four-legged residents, as this section of the beach isn't just a stretch of sand but a testament to the bond between humans and their pets. However, dog owners must ensure their furry friends remain leashed and adhere to the posted guidelines while relishing this beachside experience.
