County officials held a press conference Wednesday going over vaccine distribution information for residents 65 and older.
Jeff Brower, the new County Chair made his first public appearance in today’s daily briefing, informing county residents that officials are working diligently with our partners on the local and state level to effectively and efficiently distribute vaccines to those that want it.
“While some vaccines have rolled out earlier this week and will continue to roll out at the end of the week, no further vaccination events will be announced until the county has vaccine supplies in hand,” said Brower.
Patricia Boswell, Administrator for the Florida Department of Health in Volusia County, spoke briefly at the press conference, apologizing for the events that transpired Monday and Tuesday at the Daytona Beach Vaccine Distribution event.
“In hindsight, we should have waited,” Boswell said regarding news of seniors camping out at Daytona Stadium for vaccinations.
The Florida Department of Health is asking for the public’s patience, while officials are waiting to hear about the next shipment.
Current COVID cases are surging in the county. The recent cases can be attributed to household clusters that began with the Thanksgiving Holiday, and numbers are beginning to show from the Christmas holiday.
Sheriff Mike Chitwood, who was also in attendance, is urging everyone to be patient and follow directions.
