To promote sustainable landscaping practices, Kalan Taylor, the director of the UF/IFAS Extension Volusia County, is set to share invaluable tips on "gardening under the trees" and incorporating vibrant plants in a free presentation, on Saturday, January 13, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Ormond Beach Regional Library at 30 S. Beach Street in Ormond Beach.
Taylor will advocate for a diverse ecosystem by introducing layers of shrubs, small trees, and wildflowers beneath towering trees. This approach adds visual allure to the landscape and provides a habitat for birds and pollinators, contributing to a healthier and more balanced environment.
The initiative aligns with Volusia County's ReGrow the Loop initiative, conceived by the County Council to enhance the 30-mile double loop of roadways. This initiative will help foster education, awareness, and collaboration to combat invasive plant species, bolster native vegetation, attract wildlife and pollinators, and encourage sustainable practices.
Collaborating with UF/IFAS Extension Volusia County and various local organizations, the ReGrow the Loop initiative strives to engage communities in eradicating invasive species, fostering native flora, and promoting sustainability practices among those who value the Loop.
