Daytona Beach and South Daytona Firefighters worked together Monday to battle a structure fire in Daytona Beach.
First responders were on the scene of a structure fire off of Palm Place in Daytona Beach just before 11 a.m. When they arrived on the scene, heavy smoke and flames were coming out from the side of the house on the property.
An occupant of the home was inside before firefighters arrived on the scene, but a neighbor who saw the smoke, woke the occupant up in time to exit the house with no injuries. Firefighters were able to attack the fire and keep it from spreading to neighboring homes.
The fire started in the utility/laundry room although the actual cause of the fire is under investigation.
The Red Cross was on the scene and will be assisting the homeowner and one tenant, who was not home when the fire started, with living arrangements; the house has been deemed unlivable.
