The state-run COVID-19 test site in New Smyrna Beach has been busy, setting a new record for several daily tests on Wednesday, December 23.
According to a release put out by the county, recognizing the continued utilization of this free service, the Florida Division of Emergency Management has worked with the City of New Smyrna Beach to extend operations at the site until July.
“While progress is being made with COVID-19 vaccines, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention continues to stress the importance of testing,” said Emergency Management Director Jim Judge. “We’re so thankful to have this continued resource in Volusia County so that those in need can quickly and easily receive a test.”
The site is located in the City Gym at 1000 Live Oak Street in New Smyrna Beach. The site is open daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The site will be closed on Friday, January 1, for New Year’s Day.
The test site offers both self-swab rapid antigen and PCR testing. Results for rapid testing are expected within 15 minutes. There is no age requirement for testing. Insurance information is requested from insured individuals, but patients will not be billed any copay or coinsurance, and those without insurance will be tested free of charge.
Appointments are not required but can be made to facilitate a faster experience by visiting their website.
No symptoms are required for testing.
