SAMPLE LETTER

To Whom it May Concern,

I am writing as a concerned parent and constituent residing in Volusia County within your district. My child attends Spruce High School in Volusia County, where they have greatly benefited from participation in the IB program.

I have recently become aware of proposed budget cuts that would reduce funding for these advanced academic programs (a 50% reduction in additional FTE from .16 to .08). Such cuts threaten to diminish the quality of education and the array of opportunities available to students in our community as well have significant impact on IB staffing and the services that are provided to my kids. Programs like IB are instrumental in preparing our students for higher education and successful careers, fostering critical thinking, and enhancing competitiveness in college admissions.

In our district, these programs have enabled students to such as earn college credits while still in high school, engage in rigorous coursework that challenges them academically, and develop skills essential for success in the Florida economy. The potential reduction or elimination of these programs would not only hinder our students' academic growth but could also adversely affect our community's reputation for educational excellence as well as have a long-term impact on the development of a highly skilled workforce in FL greatly diminishing our destination as a business-friendly state.

I urge you to oppose any budget proposals that include cuts to these vital programs. Maintaining robust funding for IB as well as AP/AICE/CAPE/DE is essential to ensure that our students continue to receive a high-quality education that equips them for future success.

Thank you for your attention to this critical issue and for your ongoing commitment to the education of our children. I am hopeful that you will advocate for the preservation of these programs and support the academic aspirations of students in Volusia County.

Sincerely,
