Mr. Dunderbak’s Opening First Satellite Location at Dunes Brewing this Summer
Dunes Brewing is partnering with a local favorite that has been a fixture in the community for almost 50 years. Mr. Dunderbak’s, currently located in the Volusia Mall, is expanding for the first time with a satellite location at Dunes Brewing in Port Orange. The new concept, “Dunder Down Under,” is aiming for a target opening date in late Summer of 2024.
“We are eager to grow Mr. Dunderbak’s to a second site,” said Doug Martin, co-owner of Mr. Dunderbak’s. “For half a century, our spot in the Volusia Mall has served as a staple for the residents and visitors of Daytona Beach. I know our loyal customers will join us in our excitement of collaborating with Dunes Brewing on this new venture. We hope to use Dunder Down Under to not only enhance the Down Under District but also reinvigorate the spirit of Dunderbak’s and welcome a new community of customers.”
“The partnership with Mr. Dunderbak’s was a no-brainer," said Dunes Brewing owner, Michael Benedict. "One thing that Dunes Brewing had been missing is the food element. Now, with the delicious menu Dunderbak’s is known for paired with the craft beers Dunes has on tap, guests will be able to experience a match made in heaven.”
Mr. Dunderbak’s, a Bavarian restaurant and delicatessen, has held its spot in the Volusia Mall for nearly 50 years and counting, opening in 1975. The eatery offers German sandwiches, deli meats and cheeses, assorted beers, gifts, and more. The famed local business has remained family-owned since its inception and will continue that legacy with the recent purchase by Doug and Martin in 2023.
Dunder Down Under will offer the popular German cuisine of Mr Dunderbak’s at a deli counter inside of Dunes Brewing and a pickup window in the kitchen for takeout orders. The kitchen portion of Dunder Down Under is currently under construction and will be 10 times bigger than what is currently offered at the parent location, allowing for third-party delivery orders and catering orders. Dunder Down Under will serve a majority of the same menu items as well as offer some new dishes.
