Governor Ron DeSantis held a press conference from the Crane Lakes Community in Port Orange Friday, acknowledging a shipment of four thousand Johnson and Johnson vaccines to a Vaccination Site that opened up for Seniors.

The temporary vaccination site opened Friday morning and will be open for a total of four days Friday, March 12 - 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, March 13 – 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Sunday, March 14 – Noon – 7 p.m. and Monday, March 15 - 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The site will offer a thousand vaccines a day to eligible Floridians.

Currently, the percentage rate of seniors that have been vaccinated in Volusia County is 58 percent.

“Hopefully, this event will push Volusia County over 60 percent,” Governor DeSantis said at the Press Conference.

The Governor hopes to announce next week, or within the following weeks, more retail pharmacies beginning to roll out vaccine distribution appointments.

“With production increasing on the vaccine, we could see in April that things become more widely available,” Governor DeSantis said. “We could possibly see a supply ramp up within the next three to four weeks.”

The Volusia County Department of Health and County Government continues to hold vaccine events at the Volusia County Fairground in DeLand.

Appointments will need to be made for first doses at myvaccine.fl.gov or by calling 866-201-7314.
