Florida Highway Patrol has closed Interstate 95 in both directions near the New Smyrna Beach/Edgewater area while Florida Highway Patrol investigates several crashes in the area.

According to a release, Northbound I-95 traffic has been re-routed at County Road (C.R. 5A). Drivers can re-enter northbound I-95 at State Road (S.R.) 442, while Southbound I-95 traffic has been re-routed at S.R. 44. Drivers can re-enter southbound I-95 at S.R. 442.

Preliminary assessments show damage to the roadway that needs repair before opening to traffic. In preparation to get the interstate open as quickly as possible, FDOT crews are standing by and ready to begin repairs as soon as investigations are complete.

Officials anticipate the closure to last throughout the day and into the evening. Motorists traveling on I-95 in or through Volusia County are encouraged to seek alternate routes.
